About UnMute

UnMute keeps the creators you follow in one place, newest first, with no algorithm choosing for you. You add the people you want, from the platforms they already use, and UnMute shows you what they published.

What it does today

  • Add creators by name, handle or link: YouTube channels, Bluesky and Mastodon accounts, podcasts and websites.
  • See everything new from them in one list. Videos play in YouTube’s own player; posts open where they were published.
  • Keep your creators in groups, hide the ones you do not want to see, and use Surprise me for a fair mix: every creator gets a turn and popularity is never used.
  • Make a short list of up to eight picks from any creators and share it with a link.
  • Sign in with Google (UnMute receives only your name, email address and picture) or with an email address, to keep your list on every device.
  • Optional: “Import from YouTube” reads the list of channels you subscribe to, once per import and read-only, so you do not have to type them in. It asks Google for one permission, youtube.readonly, which only lets UnMute read your own subscription list. UnMute keeps just each channel’s name and ID (and the order YouTube lists them in) as creators in your own list, deletes imports after 30 days, and cannot post, like, subscribe or change anything on YouTube. “Disconnect” revokes the permission, and you can also remove it at Google’s permissions page.
  • A creator can claim their page on UnMute by placing a short code on their own channel or site.

What it does not do yet

  • It cannot send alerts while UnMute is closed. It tells you about new videos when you open it.
  • It cannot post for creators on other platforms.
  • It is in early access, open to invited friends, so some things will change.

Who runs it

UnMute is run from Canada by its founder. It is not owned by, or paid for by, any platform. It shows no ads and does not sell your data. Your list stays on your own device unless you choose to save it to your account.

Write to admin@unmute.you for anything: a question, a correction, a report, or a request to remove a page or a pick that is about you.
